Department Description
The Assessment Division of Finance is responsible for creating the annual Grand List, which is ultimately used to set the mill rate and calculate taxes. Said taxes are imposed upon real estate, personal property and motor vehicles. Accordingly, the Division also administers tax relief programs for such groups as the elderly, disabled homeowners and veterans.
Responsibilities
- Create equitable Grand List annually
- Determine Real Estate Values
- Assess Personal Property and Motor Vehicles pursuant to current statutes
- Adjust assessments to reflect improvements
- Administer Tax Relief programs for the Veterans, elderly, blind, and disabled
- Provide available information to the general public
- Oversee and/or direct quadrennial general revaluation
